Overview

Wordy is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your snippets and data stay on your device. We believe your text expansions are personal, and we've built Wordy to respect that.

Data Collection

We don't collect any data. Wordy has no analytics, no crash reporting, and no telemetry of any kind.

• Your snippets - All snippets, triggers, and text expansions are stored locally on your Mac.
• Your keystrokes - Wordy monitors keystrokes locally to detect triggers, but this data never leaves your device.
• Personal information - We don't require an account or collect personal data to use the App.
• No analytics or telemetry - We don't track how you use the App, what features you use, or any usage statistics.
• No crash reports - Crash data stays on your device and is never sent to us.

By default, all your data is stored locally on your Mac:

If you enable iCloud sync, your snippets are stored in your personal iCloud Drive:

iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We do not have access to your iCloud data. Your data syncs only between your own devices signed into the same Apple ID.

Third-Party Services

Wordy does not share your data with third parties. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services that would have access to your snippets or personal information.

AI Features (Optional)

Wordy offers optional AI-powered snippet generation using Anthropic's Claude API. These features are entirely opt-in and require you to provide your own Anthropic API key.

• Your API key - Your Anthropic API key is stored securely in the macOS Keychain. It is never written to disk as plaintext and never transmitted to us.
• When data is sent - Snippet content is sent to Anthropic's API only when you explicitly click "Generate" to create or improve a snippet. No data is sent in the background.
• What is sent - When generating, we send your prompt and (for improvements) your existing snippet's title, trigger, and replacement text to Anthropic's API.
• Data retention by Anthropic - According to Anthropic's API data policy, data sent via the API is not used to train their models and is not stored beyond the API request. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details.
• Disabling AI - You can remove your API key at any time in Settings to completely disable AI features. The AI buttons will disappear and no data will ever be sent to Anthropic.

If you do not add an API key, no AI features are active and no data is ever sent to Anthropic.

Payment Processing

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC). Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record for all orders and acts as an independent data controller for the personal data it collects during the checkout process. When you make a purchase, Lemon Squeezy collects your payment information (such as name, email, billing address, and payment details) to process the transaction. We do not have access to your full payment card details.

We receive limited data from Lemon Squeezy related to your purchase, including your name, email address, and order details, for the purpose of license fulfillment and customer support.

iCloud Sync

If you choose to enable iCloud sync, your data is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Cookies

This website uses minimal cookies. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.

• Essential cookies - Our hosting provider (Netlify) may set strictly necessary cookies for security and site functionality, such as processing contact form submissions.
• Payment cookies - When you make a purchase, our payment processor Lemon Squeezy may set cookies necessary to complete the transaction and prevent fraud.

These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function and do not require your consent. We do not use any cookies that track your browsing behavior or serve advertisements.

Security

We take security seriously:

• Wordy is a sandboxed macOS application, limiting its access to only necessary system resources.
• Accessibility permissions are required only to detect keystrokes for trigger expansion.
• All data remains on your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.
• We regularly update the App to address potential security vulnerabilities.

Data Retention

Since Wordy does not collect any data from the App itself, there is no app data to retain on our end. Your snippets and settings exist only on your device (and your iCloud account if you enable sync).

For purchases, Lemon Squeezy retains your order and payment records in accordance with their own data retention policies and applicable legal requirements (such as tax and accounting obligations). We retain the limited purchase data we receive (name, email, order details) for as long as necessary to provide customer support and license fulfillment, or as required by law.

International Data Transfers

Lemon Squeezy, LLC is based in the United States. If you are located outside the United States (including in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland), your personal data collected during the purchase process will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By making a purchase, you acknowledge this transfer. Lemon Squeezy processes data in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

Your Rights

Because your data is stored locally, you have full control over your App data:

• Access - Your snippets are stored as readable JSON files on your Mac.
• Export - You can export all your data at any time using the built-in export feature.
• Delete - Uninstalling Wordy and removing the Application Support folder completely removes all your data.
• Portability - Export your snippets as CSV or JSON to use elsewhere.

Rights for EEA, UK, and Swiss Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent legislation regarding any personal data we process in connection with your purchase:

• Legal basis - We process the limited purchase data we receive (name, email, order details) on the basis of legitimate interest (license fulfillment, customer support) and legal obligation (tax and accounting requirements).
• Right of access - You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification - You may request correction of inaccurate personal data.
• Right to erasure - You may request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
• Right to restriction - You may request that we restrict processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
• Right to object - You may object to our processing of your personal data based on legitimate interests.
• Right to data portability - You may request your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Right to lodge a complaint - You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Children's Privacy

Wordy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
